Love of God

Discover how God reveals His love through Jesus Christ, and how receiving that love shapes our faith, our relationships, and our hope.

Set aside about 30–45 minutes, or use one reading each day. Begin with prayer, read each passage in context, and write down what you learn.

Key Scriptures (KJV)

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

John 3:16 (KJV) ↗

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Romans 5:8 (KJV) ↗

“We love him, because he first loved us.”

1 John 4:19 (KJV) ↗

Read, Reflect, Respond

The study notes below are reflections on Scripture. Read the linked passages for the biblical text itself.

1. God gives His Son

Read John 3:16–21 (KJV) ↗ (opens in a new tab)

Jesus speaks of God’s love for the world and the gift of His only begotten Son. Read the whole passage: the invitation to believe belongs alongside its teaching about judgment, light, and coming to the truth.

  • What does God give, and what does Jesus promise to those who believe in Him?
  • How do verses 19–21 describe our response to the light?

2. God loves us before we earn anything

Read Romans 5:6–11 (KJV) ↗ (opens in a new tab)

Paul describes Christ dying for the ungodly while we were still sinners. God’s love is demonstrated in Christ’s death, and reconciliation is received through Him. Christian assurance rests in what Christ has done rather than our ability to make ourselves worthy.

  • How does Paul describe our condition when Christ died for us?
  • What do reconciliation and rejoicing in God mean for your life today?

3. Love received becomes love shared

Read 1 John 4:7–21 (KJV) ↗ (opens in a new tab)

John grounds our love in God’s character and His sending of His Son. He connects knowing God with loving one another. God’s love calls us to concrete care for the people before us; claiming to love God while hating a brother contradicts that claim.

  • What do verses 9–10 say about how God’s love was made known?
  • Who can you love through a specific act of kindness, patience, or service this week?

4. God’s love sustains us through suffering

Read Romans 8:31–39 (KJV) ↗ (opens in a new tab)

Paul names real hardship, persecution, and danger. These verses do not promise an easy life. They assure believers that nothing in creation can separate them from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  • Which difficulties does Paul name, and what assurance does he give?
  • How can this passage shape your prayer in a difficult season?

Put Love into Practice

Write down one truth about God’s love from these readings. Then choose one practical response: encourage someone, listen without rushing, offer help, or pray for a person who is difficult to love. Loving others does not require remaining in harm’s way; seek support and keep appropriate boundaries.

A Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for loving us and sending Your Son. Help us trust what You have done through Jesus, walk in Your truth, and love others with patience and humility. Strengthen our hope when life is difficult. In Jesus’ name, amen.
