Who Was Esther?
The queen who courageously spoke at the right time.
Esther was a Jewish orphan raised by her cousin Mordecai in the Persian Empire. After King Ahasuerus removed Queen Vashti, Esther was chosen as queen, though she had not revealed her Jewish identity. Haman, a powerful official, became furious with Mordecai and plotted to destroy all the Jewish people. Mordecai urged Esther to speak to the king. Approaching without an invitation could cost Esther her life, so she asked the Jewish people to fast. Esther then approached the king, invited him and Haman to banquets, and wisely revealed Haman’s plot. The king acted, Haman was judged, and the Jewish people were allowed to defend themselves.
