Who Was Joseph?
A righteous man who obeyed God’s direction.
Joseph was a descendant of King David and a carpenter from Nazareth. When he learned Mary was expecting a child, he planned to act quietly and mercifully. An angel explained in a dream that Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and would save His people from their sins. Joseph obeyed immediately. He took Mary as his wife, named the child Jesus, traveled to Bethlehem, fled with his family to Egypt when Herod threatened Jesus, and later returned to raise Jesus in Nazareth.
