Unit 6 • Following Jesus

Timothy

Following Jesus faithfully from youth onward

Timothy learned Scripture from his family, joined Paul’s missionary team, and grew into a trusted young leader who served through weakness and pressure.

Who Was Timothy?

The young disciple encouraged to be an example.

Timothy’s mother Eunice was Jewish and believed in Jesus; his father was Greek. His grandmother Lois and mother taught him the Scriptures from childhood. Paul met Timothy in Lystra, where local believers spoke well of him, and invited him to join the missionary team. Timothy traveled, carried important messages, strengthened churches, and later served in Ephesus. Paul called him a beloved son in the faith. Because Timothy was young and sometimes timid or unwell, Paul urged him not to be ashamed, to use his gift, to guard sound teaching, and to be an example in word, conduct, love, spirit, faith, and purity.
