Who Was Paul?
The persecutor transformed into a missionary.
Paul was first known as Saul of Tarsus. He was a highly trained Pharisee who opposed the church and approved Stephen’s death. While traveling to arrest believers in Damascus, Saul was surrounded by light and heard the risen Jesus speak. Blinded, he was led into the city, where a disciple named Ananias courageously welcomed him. Saul regained his sight, was baptized, and began proclaiming Jesus as the Son of God. Later called Paul, he traveled throughout the Roman world planting churches, teaching Scripture, enduring opposition, and writing letters that became part of the New Testament.
