Unit 1 • Beginnings

Abraham

Following God one faithful step at a time

God called Abraham to leave his home and trust a promise he could not yet see: a family, a land, and blessing for all nations.

Who Was Abraham?

A man God called to live by faith.

Abraham, first called Abram, lived in Ur when God told him to go to a land God would show him. God promised to make Abraham into a great nation and bless all families of the earth through him. Abraham obeyed, though he did not know every step ahead. He sometimes acted from fear and made wrong choices, but God remained faithful, renewed His covenant, and taught Abraham to trust Him. God gave Abraham and Sarah their promised son, Isaac, in their old age.

Think About It

Wonder together

  1. What did Abraham leave behind when God called him?
  2. Why was waiting for God’s promise difficult?
  3. How did God keep reminding Abraham of His faithfulness?
  4. What is one next step where you can trust God?
