Who Was David?
The shepherd king whose heart kept turning toward God.
David was the youngest son of Jesse. God sent Samuel to anoint him while he was caring for sheep. David served Saul with music and bravely faced Goliath because he trusted the Lord’s power. Though Saul hunted him, David repeatedly refused to take revenge. As king, David united Israel and brought the ark to Jerusalem. David also committed terrible sins involving Bathsheba and Uriah. When Nathan confronted him, David confessed. He experienced painful consequences but continued seeking God’s mercy. God promised that a forever King would come through David’s family—a promise fulfilled in Jesus.
