Solomon

Asking God for wisdom and learning to guard the heart

Solomon asked God for wisdom, built the temple, and led Israel during a time of peace and prosperity. His later choices warn us that wisdom must be joined with lifelong faithfulness.

Who Was Solomon?

The wise king who built the temple.

Solomon was a son of David and Bathsheba. When he became king, God invited him to ask for what he wanted. Solomon asked for an understanding heart to judge the people well, and God gave him remarkable wisdom along with wealth and honor. Solomon built the temple in Jerusalem and prayed that it would be a place where people sought the Lord. Yet later he married many foreign wives, tolerated their idols, and allowed his heart to turn away from God. His kingdom would be divided after his death.
