Who Was Saul?
Israel’s first king—and a warning about disobedience.
Saul was from the tribe of Benjamin. He appeared impressive and at first seemed humble about becoming king. God’s Spirit empowered him to lead Israel in battle. Over time, however, Saul became impatient, acted without waiting for Samuel, and kept what God had commanded him to destroy. He blamed others instead of fully repenting. Saul later became jealous of David and spent years chasing him. His story teaches that leadership, ability, and outward success cannot replace a heart that trusts and obeys God.
