Unit 2 • God Leads His People

Gideon

Learning that God’s strength is enough

Gideon felt small and afraid, but God called him a mighty man of valor and showed that victory depends on the Lord, not the size of an army.

Who Was Gideon?

A hesitant leader strengthened by God.

Gideon lived when Midian repeatedly stole Israel’s crops and left the people afraid. An angel of the Lord found Gideon hiding while threshing wheat and called him to rescue Israel. Gideon asked questions and requested signs, but God patiently confirmed His call. Gideon tore down his father’s altar to Baal. God then reduced Gideon’s army from thousands to only three hundred so everyone would know the victory came from Him. With trumpets, jars, and torches, Gideon’s small force surrounded the enemy camp, and God brought deliverance.
