Who Was Miriam?
A courageous sister, prophetess, and worship leader.
Miriam was the sister of Moses and Aaron. As a girl, she watched Moses’ basket from a distance and wisely offered to find a Hebrew nurse when Pharaoh’s daughter discovered him. Many years later, after God brought Israel safely through the Red Sea, Miriam took a tambourine and led the women in singing and dancing before the Lord. Scripture calls her a prophetess. Miriam later spoke wrongly against Moses and experienced God’s correction, but Moses prayed for her and the whole community waited until she returned.
